Hello, friends

Happy Wednesday! Today, I’m sharing why I’m boycotting Kat Von D products and why you should too. I was raised to fight for what I believe in and this is something that I truly believe every human being should do. Last week, I was scrolling through my Twitter page and saw a tweet about how Kat Von D does not plan on vaccinating her children and is a anti-vaxxer.

I knew the minute we announced our pregnancy that we would be bombarded with unsolicited advice. Some good and some questionable – unsolicited none the less. I also was prepared for the backlash and criticism we would get if we decided to be open about our personal approach to our pregnancy. My own Father flipped out on me when I told him we decided to ditch our doctor and go with a midwife instead. If you don’t know what it’s like have people around you think you are ridiculous, try being openly vegan. And, if you don’t know what it’s like to have the entire world openly criticize, judge, throw uninformed opinions, and curse you – try being an openly pregnant vegan on Instagram, having a natural, drug-free home birth in water with a midwife and doula, who has the intention of raising a vegan child, without vaccinations. My point being: I already know what it’s like to make life choices that are not the same as the majority. So your negative comments are not going influence my choices – actual research and educating myself will – which i am diligently doing. This is my body. This is our child. And this is our pregnancy journey. Feel free to follow me on here if you like what I’m about – whether it’s tattooing, lipstick, Animal Rights, sobriety, feminism, ridiculous gothiness, black flower gardening, cats, or my adorable husband. But if you don’t dig a certain something about what I post, i kindly ask that you press the unfollow button and move the fuck on. So before anyone of you feel inspired to tell me how to do this, I would appreciate you keeping your unsolicited criticism to yourself. More importantly, for those who have amazing positive energy to send my way, I will gladly and graciously receive it with love! X

As someone who plans to further pursue an education in Science and Medicine, this is alarming. As a woman who maybe in the next 10 years will start her own family, this is disappointing and terrifying. I’m not a parent, but I know that parents would want the best for their children.  Look I’m not Mom shaming her, but I really do think it’s irresponsible as a parent and as a human being to not vaccinate your children. This decision Kat Von D and many anti-vaxxers make, endanger their children and also other innocent people. You are risking the health and safety of not only your children, but the greater population as well.

A little back story

In 1998, a research paper titled The Lancet by Andrew Wakefieldresulted in controversy when it claimed the MMR vaccine was linked to austism spectrum and colitis disorders. THIS IS 100% FALSE. VACCINES WILL NOT, I REPEAT, WILL NOT GIVE YOU AUSTISM. As a result of this fradulent research paper being published, there was a drop in vaccination rates and resulted in the increase of measles and mumps cases. These two diseases can result in long term, serious injuries or death. VACCINATE YOUR CHILDREN!!!! Following this controversy, more studies were conducted. Studies conducted by the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Institute of Medicine, UK National Health Service, Cochrane Library and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ALL concluded that there was NO LINK between the MMR vaccine and autism. There was also an investigation being done on the original research paper and the Scientist who performed the study. Many ethical codes were broken and results were manipulated. The author of the fradulant paper, Andrew Wakefield himself admitted that the study was false and was paid to placate suspicious parents. He is no longer able to practice as a Doctor in the UK. Wakefield’s unethical actions has caused epidemics and deaths around the world.

Why vaccinate?

With this small platform I have on the internet, I can use this opportunity to educate people. I can use this oppourtunity to tell you what’s true and what is false. I’m not claiming to be an expert or be a “know it all” but I’m stating what has been proven. I would only share and write about things I believe in and this topic being one of them. PLEASE vaccinate your children and future children! You are saving them and also saving the population.

It does not take hundreds of people for diseases to spread. Long story short, a small amount of unvaccinated people can make it easier for diseases to spread. Vaccines are used to combat deadly diseases. Yes, deadly. Look, I’m not trying to scare you, but it’s the truth. Vaccination is the best way you can be protected from preventable diseases such as measles, mumps, whooping cough, smallpox etc. (there’s a whole lot more dieases out there!) Outbreaks of these preventable diseases occur when parents decide they do not want to vaccinate their children and if these children are not vaccinated, said diseases could spread to other children who are too young to vaccinate or if an individual has a weak immune system. It is your duty to help protect your children and people on this earth!

So, for all the anti-vaxxers, I urge you to do your research and to NOT believe a fraudulent paper by a discredited doctor who again, admitted to being paid off and the study was a lie. I also urge you to not believe and be easily influenced by public figures such as Kat Von D and Jenny McCarthy, who have no Scientific Education/Credential and claim that “vaccines give you autism.” It is your duty to help protect your children and people on this earth! Be smart, be responsible, vaccinate your children. If you were not vaccinated, get vaccinated!

Beauty Alternatives

I used to be a fan of Kat Von D products. I used to love her foundation and concealer, but after reading her statement, I have since thrown out every Kat Von D product I own and will not be purchasing any of her products.

With her recent remarks, it was also brought to my attention the other things Kat Von D has done/is associated with. I’m appalled that I have spent money on her brand. I should have done my research and now refuse to support her brand. I believe in equality. I believe in standing for what is right. I believe for fighting for the greater good. So, thank you Kat Von D for your anti-vax remarks (still think it’s irresponsible, but that’s just me), without your anti-vaxx remarks this would not have been brought to my attention. You’re officially and forever cancelled in my books. These are just some things I found Kat Von D has done/is associated with. If you want to support her, I can’t stop you, you are entitled to your own decisions, but I have written this post to educate you why I will no longer support her brand and standing up for what I believe in.

Since reading her irresponsible statement, I have also researched other products that are vegan and cruelty free. Here are some products below.

Vaccinate your kids!
