Hi, friends!!!!

Happy Monday! Hope you are all doing great! It’s All Star Break in Baseball and yesterday, Sunday July 15, 2018 marked the last day of the first half of the MLB Season! That means there’s officially 67 games left in the regular season  😭😭😭😭 I’m not crying, you’re crying (but I am ugly crying at the moment!)

So, today, I’m sharing my favourite moments of the first half of the 2018 Blue Jays season! I love this team, and I’m so proud of them through the good and bad!

Spring Training

For me, the highlight of Spring Training in Florida was when Braden Halladay was on the mound. I remember watching this and I legit cried. It was like seeing a young Doc on the mound. For those that don’t know who he is, Braden is the eldest son of the late Roy “Doc” Halladay and Brandy Halladay. The 17 year old tossed a perfect bottom of the 8th inning for the Canadian Junior National Team. But before he threw his first pitch, Braden drew a heart on the mound. He also got a standing ovation after working 1-2-3 eighth.

Another cool fact about that same game? It should have been called “The Legacy Game.” Why you ask? Well, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette, Kacy ClemensCavan Biggio, Dwight Smith Jr, Brandon Grudzielanek were all on the Blue Jays lineup and of course, Braden Halladay on the Team Canada lineup. All the players mentioned are sons of former MLB players. Brandon Grudzielanek is the nephew of Mark Grudzielanek.

Other notable Spring Training highlights was Grandy Man’s first AB as a Blue Jay AND getting a homer. Yup, he got a homer during his first AB in Blue and White. I mean come on!!!!

My second favourite moment from Spring Training had to be when Vladdy Jr. hit a 2 run walk off homer inside the Montreal Olympic Stadium, the same ballpark where his Dad played. His father, Vladimir Guerrero Sr. played with the Montreal Expos from 1996-2003. I don’t know about you, but I got chills watching that. Everything from stepping up to the plate, to his walk off homer, to the celebration, it was such an exciting moment!

Okay, last but not least, my last favourite Spring Training moment was when the guys, Pillar, Grich and Grandy, traded their equipment for food. Still laughing!!!!

Opening Day

Ah, one of the best times of the year! This season’s Opening Day was one of my favourite Blue Jays moments. Thursday March 29, 2018 was the day the Toronto Blue Jays officially retired Doc’s number and jersey. He is the second former Blue Jays  player to have their number and jersey retired, alongside Roberto Alomar. He was also added to the Level of Excellence.

Joeys Homecoming

Tuesday July 3, 2018 marked the day Joey came back to Rogers Centre but not as a Toronto Blue Jay, but as a New York Met. I remember last year when Edwin Encarnacion’s first game back at Rogers Centre and him and Joey were talking and hugging during BP. It was like that, but Joey’s visit back was more emotional. I don’t know if it was because he was here for so long, or that he was the franchise player, or the fact that Joey (and Doc) were the reasons why I and so many people got into Baseball, but let me tell you this, I cried when I saw him (maybe I’m just an emotional mess?). Joey came to see the guys during BP and one of the more memorable moments was when he saw Gibby and was like “Hey, you don’t answer your phone? What the hell?” 😂

How the Grich stole Christmas

Since coming back from the DL, Grich has been playing really well. But in my opinion, one of his best games as a Toronto Blue Jays was on June 25 against the defending World Series champs. Not only did he hit a homer, but he also won us the game with *probably* the catch of the year (Sorry Kevin Pillar).

Sorry George Springer, better luck next time!

Super Pillar

Okay, so if you actually watch Blue Jays Baseball, then you know Kevin Pillar’s nickname is “Superman” or “Super Pillar.” While he may not be able to claim that nickname on Player’s Weekend due to copyright reasons, his actions speak for themselves. Why is he nicknamed Superman might you ask? Well, below are some proof why.

Grich: “Watch me make the best Blue Jays catch of the year.”

Pillar: “Hold my beer.”

I mean, he deserves a cape, he’s earned it.

What streak?

Some people hate Friday the 13th because of all the Superstitions, but if you’re a Blue Jays fan, you may want to change your mind. Blue Jays play amazing on Friday the 13, I don’t know why or how, but they’re really good. Last week, Friday July 13, 2018, Jays won 13-7 against the Boston Red Sox and also ended their 10 game winning streak. As a Jays fan, you’re obviously not a fan of the Red Sox…. or the Yankees…. the Rays…. the Orioles…. and the Rangers (yes, even if Joey is no longer on the team), so ending their 10 game win streak was obviously a fun moment!

By the end of the 3rd inning, the Jays had already scored 8 runs, while the Red Soxs, had scored 6 runs, you know just a regular Friday night at Fenway Park (anyone else say Fenway Park with a Boston accent?). From homers to amazing plays, overall it was a great game and Jays won 13-7…. 13 runs on Friday the 13th, you can’t make this stuff up.

While I’m sure I’ll remember another 10+ moments once I click “publish,” these are just some of my favourite Blue Jays moments that personally stood out for me. I can’t wait until later tonight, the home run derby and the All Star game tomorrow! So excited for Happ and can’t wait to see everyone! Go, Jays, Go!!!!
