Frequently Asked Questions
Why did you name your Blog ‘A Life She Loved?’
I named my blog, A Life She Loved, because I wanted a meaningful domain/blog name and since I am sharing bits and pieces of my life on the blog, I thought A Life She Loved was a perfect match! A Life She Loved is about living a life I love and not what others think I should be doing.
Why is your Domain .ca and not .com?
When I decided to start blogging again, I needed a new blog name and domain. I debated on a few names, but I ended up falling in love with “A Life She Loved.” When I tried to register for a domain via GoDaddy, the .com domain was already taken. In a way, it was a blessing in disguise since I am from Canada, and I am a Proud Canadian – I am happy that my blog is a .ca domain!
What made you want to start another Blog?
The main reason why I wanted to start blogging (the first time) was to have a creative outlet apart from my Academic and Professional life. I needed something that was just mine. I wanted something that I can look back on in a few years and see how I overcame the many challenges of adulthood. Another reason was that, I am usually the person my friends go to when they need advice or help with anything, so why not write a blog of things we, as humans, face on a regular basis?
What do you use to edit your photos/create collages/posts?
I use VSCO and Adobe Apps!
How do I start Blogging?
Who designed your blog?
When I first started my blog, I worked with Gina to design my blog theme. When I rebranded last year, I worked with Phil and the pipdig team! I love both companies so much and will work with them again!
*This is not sponsored in any way! I just loved working with them and will work with them again in the future!*
What is your ethnicity?
I feel like a lot of people are a
little too obsessed with this topic, but I am Filipino, Spanish, Chinese and Hawaiian.
Why don’t you post photos of yourself or share your personal info like your last name online?
When I started blogging, I’ve always wanted to keep my personal life private and separate from my business and blog. I’ve always been a private person, and will always be a private person. I never wanted my entire life out there for the world to see. The people in my life know how I look like and know how I am as a person – I don’t need likes, follows and comments to validate my existence. I like to stay in the background and not front centre – I HATE attention and do everything in my power to keep a low profile. I don’t share photos of myself or my last name/full name on any of my public accounts for privacy reasons and frankly, it’s no one’s business. In a world where everyone feels the need to share (sometimes overshare) things online, I personally feel people should be more careful and aware of what they are doing online and what they are sharing – there’s A LOT of crazy people online that do not have your best interest.
Another reason for my privacy is that before I decided to take the PhD route instead of the MD route, I wanted to keep blogging separate, so that my patients could not find me. Just Google nightmare stories about patients stalking their Doctors online…. Yeah, NOPE!
I’ve gotten A LOT of immature (and bored?) teenagers and adults coming at me in my DMs calling me “insecure” or “I won’t post pictures of myself because I’m ugly.” You can say and think what you want to say and think, you can gossip and make up stories all you want – I’m perfectly happy with my life and won’t be losing sleep over what you think about me 🙃
Do you track IPs?
For security reasons, yes, we do track IP addresses. I have a lot of Internet Troll activities on my accounts, so we label each Internet Trolls’ IP address and block the IP address in our system. You read all about our privacy policies in the footnote.
Do you block IP addresses?
Yes, I do. Before I decided to make ALSL password protected, I had over 100+ IP addresses blocked – that’s not a laughing matter, it’s scary and it makes me feel very uncomfortable that people act like this. I only block IP addresses that try to enter password protected pages, when I know they do not have access to it, (I can see how many times you’ve tried to enter a password and what password they enter etc.), if you’ve tried to hack into my blog or if they do anything on my accounts that disrespects me or if they have what I like to call “stalking activities.” Just an FYI, the system that we use to track accurate IP addresses can tell how long you’ve been on ALSL, what time, date, what device you are using, your internet provider (I can tell if you’re at school!), screen resolution, what page or post you are on/reading, how long you read something etc., and when we run into Internet Trolls that have very questionable activity and we do a little more work, we can tell exactly who you are (name etc.,), your address. It’s not funny, it’s disturbing and some people need to use their time to help others.
Why did you make ALSL private?
Long story short, I felt like I was losing my voice and I saw no reason to continue writing my blog when Internet Trolls would not respect my wishes for privacy and to leave me and my accounts alone after asking them MULTIPLE times over the past 2 years. The harassment and bullying I got for the past 2 years was disturbing and it was very bad for mental health. Having to block people on my accounts and IP addresses was more of a part time job. I’ve always had password protected pages just for family and friends and they were one of the reasons why I wanted to start a blog anyways, so I made ALSL viewable to them only. I know there were a few people that followed along and read my blog that respected me and my need for privacy, so I’ll be contacting them when I am ready.
You can read more about why I decided to make ALSL password protected here.
Will you make ALSL public in the future?
At this time, I have no plans to make ALSL public. I am keeping a majority of past and future blog posts, as well as certain pages password protected. I think I’ve been more than patient with bored Internet Trolls, that it’s time to focus on myself and my mental health. Remember, in a world where you can be anything, always be kind.
Do you write all of your Blog Posts or does someone else write them for you?
Unless stated other wise everything on alifesheloved.ca and affiliated social media accounts is written and created by me! Maybe in the future I will have guest bloggers or hire someone to join the team, but for now, it’s a one woman job!
What do you think about Social Media?
If I had to be honest, I have a love/hate relationship with social media. I think it is great when you can use social media to create awareness on your platform, to show your passions, to encourage, to inspire, to help others. As many of you know, I love sports and using creativity to express yourself. Social Media is a great way for me to market my blog, NINETYFOUR87, For A Better Tomorrow Foundation, learn new technology and getting all the latest info on Sports! BUT, I also think there’s parts to Social Media that are uninviting. There’s a lot of hateful people online hiding behind a computer screen, tablet, phone etc. saying hurtful things to people they don’t know. Spread love and kindness wherever you go. Be someone who makes everybody feel like somebody.
What is one beauty product I cannot live without?
I rarely wear makeup, but this product is something I use every single day – I always stock up on them!
What is my current Skin Care Routine?
I follow a 3 step system – cleanser, toner and moisturizer. I use this cleanser (I have sensitive skin and this didn’t cause any breakouts, plus it smells great!). As for my toner, I switch it up between this toner and this Black Tea toner from the same brand. For my moisturizer, I use this moisturizer (it’s lightweight, smells amazing, super moisturizing!). Check out “Christina’s favourite’s” for all my favourite products I use!
How tall are you?
I’m 5’0 – 5’1 🙂
How old are you?
My birth year is 1994.
Who are your Style Icons?
My Style Icons are The Duchess of Cambridge, Princess Diana, Olivia Palermo, Nicole Richie, Lauren Conrad and Olivia Culpo.
Are you currently in School?
No, I am not currently enrolled in school. In the future, I do plan on further pursing my education and getting a PhD degree and become a Scientist/Researcher (either Psychology or Neuropsychology). I do however take online classes when I can to further help me succeed in my business ventures. I take Social and Digital Media, Marketing, Fashion (Parsons) and Business in my spare time and in the future Hospitality/Restaurant Manager for Eat NINETYFOUR87.
What did you study in School?
I studied Sociology and Psychology. I also take online Business, Marketing, Fashion classes at Parsons School of Design.
Favourite places to go eat, hang out and shop in Toronto?
Oh, this is too hard! I love everything about Toronto (except when it’s hot and it smells like fish outside), but if I had to choose my go to places to eat, it’d be E11ven, 416 Snack Bar, Real Sports, The Porch, Fring’s, Panago Pizza, Cactus Club Cafe, Chipotle (lol), Pizzeria Libretto, Terroni, Sud Forno, Uncle Tetsu (delicious cheesecake), La Gourmand (cute little cafe with the best cookies), Nutella Cafe (our favourite go to), trying different things at Kensington Market and the Distillery. My favourite places to hang out is at a sporting event, concerts, at home, Snakes and Lattes, or Rec Room which just opened this past summer (2017). If I’m not at work, studying, or cooking/cleaning at home, then I’ll probably be at a local craft store like Michaels, Chapters Indigo to get a few more books to add to my library, Eaton Centre, Bloor-Yorkville area, or local Toronto boutiques. I’ll write a more detailed post in the Toronto Guides!
What do I order at Chipotle?
I don’t know whether to laugh or be proud or be worried that I’ve somehow helped with people lead a poor diet, but I’ve been asked this question a lot this past summer. I always get the Burrito Bowl (sometimes I get chicken, sometimes I get steak), brown rice, black beans, mild tomato salsa, chill corn salsa, sour cream, cheese, lettuce. Sometimes I get the chips and guac.
I’m going to visit Toronto for the first time, do you have any tips?
AWWWW, I am so happy for you! You’re going to love Toronto! I will have everything Toronto related from travel tips, restaurant guides, must see places etc., under “Explore.”
